How old are you?
Do you have any dryness or burning in your eyes?
Is there any discharge from the eyes?
Are both eyes involved?
Do they itch?
For how long do you have these symptoms?

Reasons for redness of eyes could be many but since you are saying that there is discharge, it means that there is some infection. I would advise you to use an antibiotic eye drop like Vigamox 3-4 times a day for a few days. You could also be having some lid pathology like meibomitis or blepharitis for which you can massage your lids with a tetracycline or doxycycline eye ointment at bed time.
You should also use a lubricant eye drop like Refresh Tears 3-4 times a day. It should help you a lot.
