This is the third time this has happened in six months and I

Resolved Question:

Hello, this is the third time this has happened in six months and I don't know if I have a problem. I wake up in the middle of the night with a stabbing pain in my eye. It has happened with both the right and left eye. It is almost as if the orbit is in pain. Can't figure out what to do since is doesn't happen that often. The pain usually goes away in a few hours. I do have to get up, I just can't lay in bed in pain when this happens. It is like a pressure. Any ideas? Should I go to an eye doctor or my family doctor?

Hello there

There are a couple of things that come to mind. One is something called Recurrent Erosion Syndrome where an unhealthy surface layer on your cornea literally peels off while you are sleeping causing significant pain that improves within several hours. Second thing would be to make sure your eye pressure is OK. I suggest you get in with an ophthalmologist and have it investigated, Regards *****
