   I am an Ophthalmologist.
The puffiness of the eyes can be due to allergy or due to eye flu. With viral fever sometimes there can be eye flu or pink eye also. If he is getting a lot of irritation and redness in that eye then it is mostly eye flu. You would need to consult his doctor for that.
In the meantime give him oral anti-histaminics for the swelling and apply cotton dipped in water on the eye.
Also you can put anti-inflammatory eye drops like zaditor 9available OTC) and lubricating eye drops like refresh tears/genteal/optive etc.
