My my father passed away in AZ in June last year. His widow
my my father passed away in AZ in June last year. His widow claimed there was no will and no life insurance policy and he left me nothing. That would certainly have been possible, however her behaviour was suspicious. This caused me to formally enquire from OFEGLI (Federal Government Employee Life Insurance) about whether or not he had a policy. Last week I received a letter from them stating that he had, but as no beneficiary had been named, the spouse was entitled to the whole amount and that the claim had been paid. His widow also stated that nothing needed to go through probate court. I just want to know the truth if it's possible to discover it. My dad was always generous to me and my partner and I was stunned and hurt to hear that he left me not so much as even a photo. Again, this could be true, and I would accept that if this is the case. I am not looking to take away property or money from his widow at all, but several years ago he did ask for my SSN and indicated it would be used around inheritance. I want some advice on how to find out if he did have a will, if he did not then does this need to go through probate court or not. … read more
