My condolences to you on your loss. As far as the will, do you know where the most current copy may be stored?
Hi,
Until and unless the will is formally probated, you cannot obtain a copy. To find out if a will is probated you can contact the county probate office where your mother lived, give them her name, and see if a will was recorded. If not you can record your own will and wait for the other party to contest and record a newer will over your recording, since a newer document overrides the past document. If a will was recorded the attorney of record will also be listed. As far as financial responsibilities, unless you become the executor of the estate you do not have obligations for the estate, even if you are a legal child and a direct heir.
