Ok, what will have to happen is wife will have to file a formal petition in the probate court to reopen the trust and be appointed as successor trustee for the trust so she can then open a bank account in the trust's name so she can deposit the check and then withdraw the funds once the check clears.

She might want to talk to a local probate law or estate law attorney to get help with filing the motion to reopen the trust..
