In NYS my cousin paid two lawyers who acted as his executors

Customer Question

In NYS my cousin paid two lawyers who acted as his executors $25,000 each prior to his death to act as his executors. The estate is now ready for distribution and the two attorneys who hired a third party legal firm to do the work are now seeking full executor commissions. Is this legal?

Good morning. I am Loren, a licensed attorney, and I look forward to assisting you.

Were the original fees disclosed to the court when they petitioned for the executor commissions?

Have you seen the original engagement letter or retainer agreement so that you can determine what the original fees were meant to cover?
