Customer Question

My brother passed away in January of 2015. He was single with no dependents. He left his estate to my sister. The net amount is about 100K.
My sister who will be inheriting this money was legally separated at the time of my brothers death. Currently she is in the process of getting a divorce. She lives in Washington State. My brother lived in NY.
My question is--does my sister have to share her inheritance with her soon to be ex-husband? He has no idea she is coming into this money.
Thank you!

No, she does not. The inheritance is considered her separate property.
