Ok, from a purely legal perspective, 99.9% of the times we hear of "inheritances" from out of the country, they are a scam. The "beneficiary" gets an email about the inheritance from a relative in poorly written English and then tells them to contact someone out of the county to claim it. When the person contacts the solicitor, they tell them that they have to pay some "fee", or "storage charge" or "customs duty" or some other type of expense to claim the inheritance and the money must be wired by an untraceable source like Western Union.

If the person sends money, then the scammer will then either disappear with it or they will try to get the person to send more claiming that it wasn't enough or that there are other fees that are necessary.

These are common scams that originate out of Africa and emails are sent out by the tens of thousands to people hoping someone will respond so they can be scammed.
.
I am not guaranteeing that this is a scam, but if the person asks for money of any kind to claim the inheritance, whether it be fees, taxes, or whatever, then you can be assured it is a scam as any charges associated with an inheritance are paid by the estate.

So you are wise to be very cautious and assume that this is a scam until they act to prove that it is to you and your friend...
