If the bank is refusing the Affidavit, you unfortunately would have to go via probate. That would require that you take a copy of the death certificate over to the probate office, bring a copy of your ID and proof of relationship (such as your birth certificate), and become the administrator of her estate.
Then, you would have to open up an estate bank account for her, and youw ould be able to cash the check.
