Probate means to prove a will after the person dies and requires court action. WHich is usually slow. Putting property into a trust passes title before death so the property in the trust is not part of the estate of the decedent and does not have to pass through probate court to be distributed to the heirs. That usually saves time and money and depending on the situation it can reduce or avoid inheritance taxes.
