VerifiedShe is going to have to go to the probate court in the county of her residence and file to be the executor of the estate. The probate court will issue to her a letter of appointment. With that letter she can open a bank account and deposit the check. She needs to take the will, her birth certificate and the death certificate to the probate court. The procedure is fairly simple and they will give her the forms she needs to fill out. Usually you can call and make an appointment. I am sorry for your loss.
