VerifiedNo you can not be required to pay rent by the state. The state has no claim to the house until your mom passes if they try to collect from the estate for the Medicaid that was paid on your mother's behalf for the nursing home. But if you lived in the home prior to your mom going into the nursing home the state can not get possession even after your mom passes.
If the state does take ownership you will not get reimbursed for any remodeling.
Yes you can as long as the POA does not limit your ability to give money to yourself. Then you should have your aunt as the POA give you the money rather than you as POA pay yourself.
