Hi. I was typing as I awaited your response some information you should find helpful.
A couple of legal items you may find helpful:
1) Private sector employment requires no reason or cause to fire an employee at anytime. They may do so with or without reason and with no advanced notice. The only time this is not true is if you have a contract stating you had be to fired for cause, absent this, this is legal for them to do, sorry and wish I had better news.
PAY:
Wage complaints may be filed in NJ with Department of Labor and Workforce (See below):

Since private sector requires no reason to fire you, retaliation claims are usually limited to age/race/discrimination/gender/disability complaints. Due to this, asking for one's owed money and getting fired would be difficult to prove as the employer requires no reason to fire you.
Starting point for one in your position and I am sorry for what you went through would be a wage complaint with NJDOL above.
