Do I have a case for work harassment? It was with a manager,
I was working for a startup originally. It was less than 1,000 employees and worked for less than 1 year before an acquisition took place. I was on a 3 man legal team with no expected hours during the acquisition. I was told to do projects that had no desirable outcome or measurable impact, such as surveying the data level usage of top 100 customers, but it was never used. During the acquisition I was glad to help as much as possible, but felt afraid to leave the office too early because my manager was viciously demanding. I was supposed to end at 5 on and one day I was dismissed after crying at my desk and angry. She said you can go. I was judged for my weight and used as a bouncing board for all negative comments about coworkers. I tried not to talk negatively but felt I had to listen and agree. It was similar to how I spoke to my mother. This person is getting to me this person sucks because xyz. I had to laugh and agree while being judged. There were some comments about I don't know what you do because you're Jewish as well. It did not feel like I mattered as a human. Once the acquisition took place, it was clear that I was supposed to be used to talking about employees and listening to judgment and negative comments while interjecting some fort of agreement or flattery to the boss. She refused to promote even though My work warranted a promotion after the $750 million acquisition by Infor. I couldn't tell if there was a sexual undertone but it seemed that way. Hard to say. I feel like my boss never was happy or satisfied even when she said she was. I had a mother who was the same way, I kind of felt conditioned to be abused already and that it wasn't abuse. But after hours emails and calls about doing this and getting this done were never met with any promotion until I was re-hired and I thought it would be with a new boss, a lawyer Angela Thomson, but my boss was still Ashley Harvey paralegal, underpaid and overworked in her own head.… read more
