Hello, I have a question about PFL (paid family leave). I used to work at a job where I have earned at least $300 from which State Disability Insurance (SDI) deductions were withheld. I was fired from that job in Feb of 2018 and became self employed. In April of 2018 my son was born and I applied for paid family leave. The EDD (Employment development department) denied my application because I was self employed and was not paying for elective coverage any more. I then explained to them that I am actively looking for work, which is one of the requirements. They paid me and then sent me a notice of hearing.
