Legal issue with employer. Manager and HR. At will:
My issue concerns my employer. Recently there was a change in office managers and a new supervisor was appointed for my section. Prior to his appointment, I had an approved arrangement on my working hours with my then supervisor, because I am undergoing physical treatment for back pain. The treatment requires that I visit my chiropractor 3 times a week. To make these appointment, I must leave work by 4:00 PM, Monday, Wednesday and Friday. On those days, by arrangement, I would start work a half hour early, at 8:00 AM (normal work period is 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, though the office is actually open at 8:00 AM)). When I made this arrangement with my previous supervisor, I provided a written letter from my Doctor verifying the treatment and schedule. Because I was still working my full number of hours, it was agreed that there was no issue with this schedule.However, upon assuming the position, the new supervisor requested another letter from my Doctor, specifically asking for dates I would undergo treatment and a projection of how long this treatment would last. I provided the requested letter, but it evidently failed to satisfy, so my supervisor contacted my Doctor directly asking for additional information about what the length of time I would be undergoing treatment. My Doctor provided that letter stating that I was at the time estimated to continue treatment for another 4 weeks. At the end of that 4 week time, my Doctor extended the treatment and wrote another letter to my employer stating that there would be an extension of my treatment for another 6 weeks. On giving the letter to my supervisor I was told it wasn't satisfactory and I needed the Doctor to be more specific. I provided another letter after receiving a more specific request from the HR Department.My issue is that this is not only disruptive to myself, but it has created an issue with my Doctor because of so many unusual requests from my company. As I am still working exactly the same number of hours and there has been no decline in my work, I do not understand or appreciate this harassment.
