hi I am a medical social worker in a hospital in Athens Seattle area. I broke my finger and knuckle in a sliding glass door. My manager told all my co-workers I was on leave because employee health told her I had modified duties. One of co-workers stated I had seen hand surgeon, and he signed the L&I report stating I can return to work. My co -workers report my manager said : employee health trumps a doctor's letter , and why would I bring in an employee with an injury when I can have an able bodied one? I spoke with employee Health,who said she did not Sol with my mgr yet, but that there are no barriers to my returning to work. She spoke with my manager's manager who apologized to me and said this is an opportunity to discuss HIPPA with our managers. I believe my manager should not have discussed my medical situation and my leave status with 13 of my Co-workers. My manager has also made negative references to my age and fitness for duty. I had 22 years experience as a hospital Human Resources Rep before my MSW. This seems like a HIPPA violation to me, also do I have a case of Ageism wth only references to my fitness.
