I was terminated from my position last week after 8 years of service,my now former employer offered me a severance of $2000,is that a normal amount or is that just what they felt like offering?

Lawyer's Assistant: Because employment law varies from place to place, can you tell me what state this is in?

I was seemingly terminated for business reasons so I was told,no downsizing or insubordination on my part.
