I am in need of employment and I am having a difficult time

Customer Question

I am in need of employment and I am having a difficult time being rehired by my former school district. I am a teacher and I have no blemishes on my record. I was a teacher with this district for ten years and had very good appraisals. When I have asked about the progress of my application, I have been told that I am missing references, they are not hiring or an assortment of other excuses. I have seen former coworkers leave and return with no problem. I had even resorted to applying for a substitute teaching position and I was constantly told that I should hear from the district soon but to no avail. I had a former teacher for the district and was rehired as a substitute teacher as I was being told that there are no subbing positions. I must add that I am a person with a known disability and I was very active in the union. I had a difficult time in the past with receiving necessary accommodations due to my disability. I was very active in the union. I was even on the union board. Maybe I am being retaliated against because this district does not look at unions favorably. When would ask why I am not being rehired, I would never receive an answer from district personnel other than being told that they do not have to reveal their reasons to me. My husband may have to go on disability and I NEED a job. I have been working as a sub in other districts but my car is getting old and I need something in my neighborhood.
