I have my own CPA firm in NYC and am considering hiring a salaried accountant at $ 40,000. When I require them to work more than 40 hours a week, am I required to pay them overtime?

Daniel : Hello,
Daniel : an accountant is a professional employee.
Daniel : As such no overtime is required to be paid.
Daniel : By virtue of the professional post and duties the employee is exempt from overtime.
Daniel : I am in New York as well.
Daniel : Wishing you the best.

ok great so it is that simple ? because I have heard that some large accounting firms have been sued for overtime and lost

Daniel : If employee was support staff then it would be due.
Daniel : But not for professional posts.

ok great thanks

Daniel : No need to worry.
