In the State of Utah can an employer call for mandatory overtime

This answer was rated:

In the State of Utah can an employer call for mandatory overtime four hours before the end of the normal work shift? Also if the scheduled work week is monday thru friday can an employer call for mandatory scheduled overtime on saturday. Both these examples the employer files what they call an incident on employee's record after which five you are terminated. Basically can they make you work overtime as a threat to your job or is overtime on a by choice as avalible? Thank you

Unless you have an employment contract or there is a company policy that states otherwise, your employer is free to mandate overtime at any time they deem appropriate. That includes last minute notification and working on days that you are not normally scheduled. The only exception to this rule, other than what I mentioned above, is if the employer is only directing a particular employee to work overtime as a means of discrimination because the employee is a member of a protected class under employment discrimination laws.
