I am unable to...

I am unable to send messages from my hotmail email. I can receive messages but not send. It keeps saying "cannot verify account"

Technician's Assistant: Are emails stuck in your outbox or are you receiving an error message?

They are stuck - I have to check cancel to get out of it and now they are all lined up at the bottom of my screen!

Technician's Assistant: Are there any antivirus or firewall settings that could block you from sending mail?

How would I check that?

Technician's Assistant: The Email Technician will be able to walk you through that. Anything else you want the Email Expert to know before I connect you?

No I still cannot send from my Mac Book - however I can send email from my Iphone so it must be something in the laptop

It is an issue with email client smtp settings.

Are you using your mac mail(Apple mail) to check your emails?

If yes, please check the SMTP settings and correct them to the following:

outgoing mail server smtp-mail.outlook.com

Choose to Use Authentication.

Choose to Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) for outgoing mail security.

PS I just checked settings in my hotmail account and it said "hotmail off line" -I would think it should say "on line" or "connected" -right? but I don't know how to change it back
