JA: How long have you had this issue with your Gmail account?
Customer: Moreover, I cannot find another acct that has my desired name (created eons ago).
JA: How do you access your email most often? On a phone or tablet, or through a web browser?

how do I change a gmail acct name?

since the "gear" icon has been removed
  1. On your computer, open Gmail.
  2. In the top right, click Settings .
  3. Click the Accounts and Import or Accounts tab.
  4. In the "Send mail as" section, click edit info.
  5. Add the name you want to show when you send messages.
  6. At the bottom, click Save Changes.
