Just transferred my emails from Mageia 5 to M6. Using Thunderbird 52.2.1 (64bit). I cannot now send emails. Receive them OK!

Technician's Assistant: Just to clarify, what email service provider are you using?

BigPond (Telstra) in Australia.

Technician's Assistant: How do you access your email most often? On a phone or tablet, or through a web browser?

Laptop.

Technician's Assistant: What troubleshooting have you tried?

Rang BigPond (they don't support Thunderbird); web searching (found you!). My Linux group - not useful.

Technician's Assistant: Anything else you want the email expert to know before I connect you?

Worked OK on Mageia 5.

Did you check the SMTP settings of TB to make sure it is compatible with Telstra settings for SMTP?

  • Outgoing server details

    • Outgoing server address: mail.bigpond.com
    • Outgoing server port: 465 (recommended) or 587
    • Authentication: Yes
    • Encrypted connection: With SSL encryption
