Customer Question

I just recently changed my email to gmail and I want to get them (also) on my phone (I have an old Blackberry which worked fine with my other email). When I try to setup it says "bad email or password ***** gmail". So whassup?
JA: How long have you had this issue with your Gmail account?
Customer: About one month since I signed on with gmail.
JA: How do you access your email most often? On a phone or tablet, or through a web browser?
Customer: Mostly through web and I access once or twice per day.
JA: What troubleshooting have you tried?
Customer: I did that "gear" thing and enabled something but really didn't do anything
JA: Anything else you want the email expert to know before I connect you?
Customer: no, that's about it. I thought you were the tech.

Hello. My name is***** to JustAnswer. I'm reviewing your question now, and will post back with your reply momentarily.

Expert:  Isaac Franklin replied 2 months ago.

What is the exact make and model of your phone you are adding gmail to?

How are you adding it? did you download the gmail app or using the mail

client or outlook etc?

Can you please go to a browser in your phone or computer and go to

gmail.com and confirm your password ***** there? Do not use autofill.

Please manually enter the password ***** it asks to access your gmail.

Send the results to me in a reply to continue.

It's a Blackberry - not sure what model and I did not download app.

I did - it does on browser
Expert:  Isaac Franklin replied 2 months ago.

Ok, we have two options.

We can try to add it by downloading the app

or we can try to add it to your email client on your phone again.

But, this will depend on 'how' you are trying to add it and i will need to know the 'steps' you took

before it gave you the error?

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
I just tried it again. I went to "setup" on my phone. I clicked on "add email" - I entered***@******.*** and my password. It comes back invalid email address or password. If this persists, contact gmail. so here I am
Expert:  Isaac Franklin replied 2 months ago.

Ok, lets try to add it one more time with these set of directions.

Please restart your phone and then follow this. If we cannot get it added,

we will try the app for you.

did you just try to sign onto my account and get blocked?
Expert:  Isaac Franklin replied 2 months ago.

I do not know your email unless you tell me. I cannot sign into your account.

What just happened?

Expert:  Isaac Franklin replied 2 months ago.

Only you know your password ***** your accounts. What are you seeing right now?

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
a message that said "google blocked someone from signing on to your google account"
Customer: replied 2 months ago.
I tried your steps (although my Blackberry setup looks a little different) and go the same message
Expert:  Isaac Franklin replied 2 months ago.

On your phone? I believe you are seeing 'you' blocking yourself. Do you have two step verification on

on your gmail?

I think you are being blocked by it. Lets check.

Try this for me and see if it is set up for two step? We want it off.

2 step is off
Expert:  Isaac Franklin replied 2 months ago.

It is now or was?

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
it was
Expert:  Isaac Franklin replied 2 months ago.

Ok, do you know what version of blackberry you are using?

Do you have the 'playstore' on your phone?

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
no - but i do have "my space' - OLD, RIGHT?
Expert:  Isaac Franklin replied 2 months ago.

That is quite out dated. =)

Lets ensure you have no blocks. Do this for me, then reboot your phone and try to

use the link i sent you to add gmail again.

That 'less secure apps' can cause that message.

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
It probably doesn't support gmail so I'll go to the Verizon store and either get them to help or buy a new phone. Nothing else seems to work. Thanks for your time.
Customer: replied 2 months ago.
Do you think you would have better luck if I let you access my device? I don't think so but let me know if you'd like to try.
Expert:  Isaac Franklin replied 2 months ago.

Ok, did you want to try the gmail app first?

You can add it here, and if it doesnt work this way, i understand.

Give me just a second to find you one.

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
No. From time to time I get a message saying my gmail settings are out of date. not sure what that means or what I need to do.
Expert:  Isaac Franklin replied 2 months ago.

Try to use this on your phone and see if it allows you to download gmail

for your BB.

Expert:  Isaac Franklin replied 2 months ago.

Before you do that, the message you are seeing needs this to 'fix' your

gmail

Then go to your link i sent you to try and download gmail app again on phone

and add gmail.

  1. Choose Settings > Manage Accounts.

  2. Choose the account that's out-of-date to display the account settings dialog.

  3. Choose Change mailbox sync settings > Advanced mailbox settings. You may have to scroll down in the dialog to see Advanced mailbox settings.

  4. Check the boxes for Require SSL for incoming email and Require SSL for outgoing email and then choose Done > Save.

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
I'm in settings I don't see change mailbox sync settings
Expert:  Isaac Franklin replied 2 months ago.

You most likely have to hit DESKTOP view if you are trying this from a mobile platform?

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
nope it's on desktop
Expert:  Isaac Franklin replied 2 months ago.

Ok, try to download the gmail app i sent on the phone and add it. Tell me the results ?

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
can't get the app to work - can't update gmail settings. Do you want to do this via remote assistance or end all of this?
Expert:  Isaac Franklin replied 2 months ago.

I can try to, yes.

Do you have a mac or windows computer?

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
I've tried to accept this but it keeps rejecting me and my cc number which is valid. Seems like every IT thing I have is plotting against me.
Expert:  Isaac Franklin replied 2 months ago.
