Please tell me how do you access your email. There are 2 ways to access that is why I am asking which one you are doing. First is through an email program and second is through a web browser.

No, if you are using a web browser now to chat with me, it will not affect our chat if you try to access your Hotmail account.
If you are using the same web browser to access your Hotmail, then I believe you can access it using a NEW tab to keep our chat open.
