Task " error 0*800d21089 Operation Timed out for a response from the sending (SMTP) email Server

It then usually "hangs up" and continues grinding an becomes impossible to delete because it is trying to send. There have been no known changes to the program. The server is, and the email on Earthlink works fine.

Receiving email works fine.

Re-booting the computer does not help.

What steps do I need to take to fix this?
