Is the goal just to get sound through the panasonic theater system?

Ask Your Own Consumer Electronics Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
keen to get soundvia surround sound
Electronics Technician: Nathan, Engineer replied 3 months ago

Okay you do need the optical for that,

need to also go into the tv menu and set tv speakers to off (or to external/theater),

and have the player set to the TV input mode (to pick up the optical signal),

if no change, look into tv audio settings for an option for audio out/format and set that to pcm/stereo

Ask Your Own Consumer Electronics Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
Ok just checking I've done all this
Electronics Technician: Nathan, Engineer replied 3 months ago

Those are the only applicable settings here, so if it isn't working there is either a hardware issue in the sound system, or a compatibility issue

What are you watching on the tv? Cable/satellite? Aerial?

Ask Your Own Consumer Electronics Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
No sound . I'm on digital
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
Via aerial
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
Sorry yes it's on aerial
Electronics Technician: Nathan, Engineer replied 3 months ago

Do you have something else you can connect to the optical, perhaps another dvd player, a set top box, etc and see if that gets you any sound, this would at least isolate if the sound system (or possibly the optical cable) is bad.

Ask Your Own Consumer Electronics Question

Customer reply replied 3 months ago

Any other ideas
Electronics Technician: Nathan, Engineer replied 3 months ago
Those are all the right settings at this point so it is a compatibility issue or optical port issue. You’d need to test something else on optical next
