Hi! I am having issues with my Nikkor 55-300mm AF lens. It can not seem to focus. This had not been an issue until a few days ago.

Technician's Assistant: Has there been any damage to your camera recently (e.g. from dropping or from dirt getting in the lens)?

No. It has not been dropped and I have keep it away from dirt, though dust might be an issue.

Technician's Assistant: What kind of battery does your camera use? Have you tried taking out the battery and replacing it?

That was my first thought, but changing out fresh batteries has not helped. It uses EN-EL14A batteries.

Technician's Assistant: Anything else you want the Camera Expert to know before I connect you?

I can't think of anything. I have even tried various auto focus modes. But no joy.

Try wiping the contacts, on the AF lens in question especially, on the lens mount. Wipe gently so as not to remove the sensitive coating, with a soft cloth that is both clean and dry. Try the lens again.

If AF still does not work with this one lens, then it is probably a circuitry fault in the lens assembly, which should be serviced, e.g. by a qualified Nikon lens repair facility. (If it comes to having it repaired, Reply to me with your local zip code, and I will provide instructions and locations.)
