Customer Question

I have a GF-350 which is a few years old. Today I recorded a record and then I finalized the cd and it would not play - an ERR 04 came on the screen.
JA: What's the make/model of your device? How old is it?
Customer: TEAC GF-350 about 5 + years old
JA: How long has this been going on? What troubleshooting have you tried?
Customer: It has been used last week after a long period of not being used and I did another recording of the first song and it still said the same thing. Last week it was perfect.
JA: Anything else you want the Electronics Expert to know before I connect you?

I am getting a weird feeling here. Is this a TEAC company?
Customer: replied 1 month ago.
I am only going to pay the $5 brought up in the first page - if I get a resolution to this problem

Error 04 indicates that the CD cannot be read by the system.

Is this happening with just one CD or several?

If it is just one, then that CD may be bad.

If it is happening with several CDs then there is a problem with the laser head assembly.

It may just need cleaning - try running a cleaning disc and see if that helps.

If not, then the laser head assembly has likely failed.
These will fail over time as they get weak. It is something unfortunately that needs to be replaced with precision.
If you have some electronics experience and can solder well you can replace this part yourself. If not, it would really be best to have this serviced by local Audio/Video repair shop.
