This feature is a function of the Voice Mail / Call Waiting feature from your service provider. It sounds like either the Voice Mail has not been set up properly, or is full (probably not set up).

What I would do is contact your service provider directly and ask them what is wrong with their system. I would also ask for a refund of that part of the service for whatever time period this has been happening. This is NOT to get any money back, but to "get their attention" and that you mean business, and you expect to have a fully functional Voice Mail system if they expect you to pay for it.

If you do not have voice mail with your carrier, then you must have call waiting. Do you hear a "beep tone" or what might sound like a quick "disconnect/reconnect" while you are in a call and receiver another call? That is a typical "call waiting" indicator while you are in a conversation.

Let me also see if I can clarify a couple of terms - Answering System & Voice Mail.

Answering System: Your phone system may have an "Answering Machine" built into it, and that will ring a certain number of times before it picks up the call and records on your system - in your home.

Voice Mail: If your carrier provides Voice Mail service, it will allow the caller to hear your phone line ring a certain number of times, and then the Voice Mail system will pick up the call and record it on the service providers system - NOT in your home. This is often integrated with a "Call Waiting" service, also from the provider.

So what I suspect is that you have "Call Waiting" - which MAY have just been added to your service WITHOUT your knowledge (yes this does happen) - and this is allowing your callers to hear a "ring" instead of a busy signal - while you are on a current call.

Please let me know if you can actually TEST this with a separate phone (such as a cell phone) - while you are busy on the main line.

I don't need your cell number, and am not allowed to call you - that is part of the rules of this site.

But what I would like you to do is call someone on your home phone, let them know that you are doing a TEST and to hang on the line, and then call your home number from your cell phone and see what you hear from that cell.

At the same time - listen very carefully with the other person on your home phone call. You may hear a beep tone or other "interruption" in that call. If that is the case, you have Call Waiting. You should be able to "tap" the "Flash" button on your home phone handset and answer your cell phone call. That would confirm your Call Waiting feature. When you are done with the cell phone call, tap the Flash button again to go back to your other call.

Please give that a try and let me know what happens.
