Most of the time this is due to the magnetic heads or head having residue on it. This will cause the tape to slip or get stuck to the head causing the tape to either get wound around the head or cause too much play in the tape which then results in excess tape and it getting caught on an item in the VCR. The only way to try to resolve this issue is to run a tape cleaner through your VCR a couple times.

Hi sorry I did not to reply early enough. Any way i'm still not satisfied. Because I clean the heads with a tape cleaner were a few drops of cleaning solution is dropped in the top corner. One edge of the tape still gets chewed up.
