My Boss BR8 won't...

My Boss BR8 won't turn on. I plug a 9V adapter into it, lights up for a second then turns off. Please help if you can.

Technician's Assistant: When could you last turn on your instrument?

Technician's Assistant: Do you have access to a voltmeter to test the voltage coming from the AC adapter?

I don't know what a volt meter is :/

It's a BR8 Home recording studio, obviously outdated but I bought in in Ebay expecting to be able to use it. I use a 1SPOT 9V adapter
