Did you replace the speakers with speakers of the same impedance? If you're still having the problem that would indicate something that is likely in the amplifier rather than the speakers themselves. I would do a check on the amplifier for capacitors that may be bulging or leaking. This sounds like a symptom of one or more leaking capacitors. If you do find that there are some capacitors that are bulging or leaking, that's a good thing. You can replace these for less than a dollar apiece so it's a very inexpensive repair if that's what it is.
