Greetings,I hope this finds you well!I have a Paragon Fusion10 240V kiln with a 6-30r plug, 10 ga wire, 30 amps. My electrical panel has been wired to accommodate, but is out of room to wire another outlet. The new crucible 240V kiln I'm considering features a 6-20r plug, 12ga wire, 10 amp.My questions is: can the crucible kiln be safely wired with a 3-30r plug.Sincerely, ***** that has no more room on her electrical panel.

Is the breaker a QO or a Homeline type? You might consider a quad breaker. It would have a 2 pole 20A and 2 single pole 20A breakers. It would take the position of 2 single pole breakers. Using a 20 load on a 30A circuit isn't allowed.

Thank you Mike! So you doing think a kiln with 6-20R plug can be safely wired with a 6-30R?
Electrician: Mike G., Master Electrician replied 7 months ago

Using a 30A circuit has the protection over fused and is a violation. Install the quad breaker and a new circuit and outlet for safety.
