Customer Question

I have a 25' x 30' workshop with no windows, just unpainted wood. I am looking for the cheapest way to light it up.Every other horizontal truss has plywood laid down to provide storage. I have installed 4 metal junction knock out boxes with porcelain bulb sockets pointed towards the ceiling for indirect lighting but its still too dark.I used daylight LED bulbs with 1,500 lumens. After doing a little reading, I am thinking of installing 4 more boxes / porcelain bulb holder setups, installing a ballast on the circuit and using HID metal halide bulbs that will fit in a medium base.I don't care about looks, I just want the most light possible for the cheapest price. I am selling my house. Is this a good solution? What do you suggest?

I would suggest adding additional keyless fixtures with LED lamps. Pleanty light, easy to maintain and relatively inexpensive

Hello and welcome to Just Answer. My name is ***** ***** I will be happy to assist you with your electrical question.

1) T5 fluorescent lighting will give you the best lighting lumens for the money. T8 fluorescent is also another option as T8's are less expensive than T5's but are not as efficient as the T5's.

Stay away from T12 fluorescent as these are not efficient and are getting somewhat difficult to find since the T12 fluorescent bulbs are being phased out of production.

2) Another option are LED strip light fixtures which look similar to traditional fluorescent fixtures, but are much more cost effective on the monthly electrical bill. The negative side of LED bulbs is that they are more costly ($$$) than traditional T5 or T8 fluorescent tubes.

3) The most common method of lighting in the industry for a workshop and/or garage lighting is either traditional fluorescent lighting (T5 or T8) or LED strip lighting.

If you have any additional questions, just let me know and I’ll be glad to answer them for you.

Otherwise, don’t forget to rate me before you log Off.

Thanks.................Kevin:)
