I have a Hampton bay ceiling fan and the remote will not

I have a Hampton bay ceiling fan and the remote will not turn the fan on unless I take the bottom cap off the fan.
JA: I'll do all I can to help. How long have you been dealing with this?
Customer: quite a while
JA: Do you plan on doing the work yourself?
Customer: if I can
JA: Anything else we should know to help you best?
Customer: i did change the batteries 2 times to see if that would help, but it did not

As with most electronic devices the remote is not a candidate for repair and would have to be replaced.

Your best option is to buy a universal remote which comes as a transmitter and remote control. Is it to replace the existing controls.
