We just bought a house. The living room has no ceiling

Customer Question

We just bought a house. The living room has no ceiling lights. So we have bought lamps for the room. There is power from the outlets because the vacuum cleaner works from them and the TV works. However the lamps do not work and I am at a loss. Even when I flip the switches in the room to the On positions the lamps do not work. Any help is very much appreciated.

Do you have a 2 wire voltage tester?

Customer: replied 9 months ago.
I do not
Expert:  Mike G. replied 9 months ago.

To determine why the lamps don't work, testing the outlets is required. Need to test not guess. Testers are available at any home center.

Ok appreciate it. Silly question once I get one what will the test tell me?
Expert:  Mike G. replied 9 months ago.

If the room has switches, I suspect either there is a bad connection or devices were incorrectly wired for split receptacle operation. Get a tester and we can continue at that time.
