Customer Question

IN Cook County, Il: If 3/c#14 or 3/c #12 AC cable is used and the 3rd conductor is the insulated ground taped with green tape, is it allowed for lighting fixtures installed on existing soffit where it has to be fished between recessed lighting fixtures installed in 1979 by owner? Please respond also in e-mail: [email protected];com
JA: I'll do all I can to help. How long have you been dealing with this?
Customer: No issues to date, but Cook county has an inspection requirement now before a house is sold that did not exist in 1979; No home inspections were required in 1976 when I bought a house built in 1949.;
JA: Do you plan on doing the work yourself?
Customer: I did the work in 1979 using AC in the soffits.;
JA: Anything else we should know to help you best?
Customer: Not that I know.

AC cable has a foil ground which allows the connector to ground boxes or fixtures. The use of a reidentified conductor as a ground is acceptable in addition to the foil ground.
