I have 4 No. 6 wires coming out from a 40 amp circuit breaker

Customer Question

I have 4 No. 6 wires coming out from a 40 amp circuit breaker back at my service panel. They used to supply the power to a spa but I disconnected the spa. My question is "can I somehow use these wires to feed a 30 Amp heat pump unit that I want to install near where the spa used to be. I think that if I remove one wire and installed a 30 amp breaker this might do the trick. Can you help me?

Hi, I'm Mike G and I'll be assisting you. Yes you may use the circuit. If you only need 2 hots and a ground, just leave the existing neutral capped and install the 30A breaker.
