Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Ok
Expert:  Wayne Roberts replied 1 year ago.

OK, so i am assuming that the fan speed is also not changing when you hit the high mad low buttons?

Expert:  Wayne Roberts replied 1 year ago.

med*

Expert:  Wayne Roberts replied 1 year ago.

oh i see, sorry. its not working at all. Was the fan recently installed?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
The fan is not spinning
Expert:  Wayne Roberts replied 1 year ago.

or did it just stop one day..

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
no it has worked fine for 3 years and it just stopped working 2 days ago
Expert:  Wayne Roberts replied 1 year ago.

Depending on how old it is that article may have the answer. We can make sure everything else is good if you have a wire tester handy

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I do not
Expert:  Wayne Roberts replied 1 year ago.

one other thing i can think of that would do this is if when you were changing batteries in the remote, OR while cleaning the fan the frequency selectors were moved

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Why would the light still go on and off with the remote if it was a frequency selector
Expert:  Wayne Roberts replied 1 year ago.

there are 4 tab switches in the remote and on the fan, they must match to be on the same channel. The light comes on because the remote is still sending a signal, just on a frequency the fan does not "see"

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Could be a stupid question what does "still" mean
Expert:  Wayne Roberts replied 1 year ago.

continues

Expert:  Wayne Roberts replied 1 year ago.

do the lights on the fan work?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
if the frequency codes do not match the remote could still switch the light on?
Expert:  Wayne Roberts replied 1 year ago.

yep

Expert:  Wayne Roberts replied 1 year ago.

... let me clarify, the lights on the fan will not work if the codes are mismatched

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Ok I will try that when I get home - can I follow up with you?
Expert:  Wayne Roberts replied 1 year ago.

the LED light on the remote will continue light up if the codes are mismatched

Expert:  Wayne Roberts replied 1 year ago.

yep, ill be here.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
The light above the fan works with the remote
Expert:  Wayne Roberts replied 1 year ago.

if the lights on the fan work with the remote, you have a bad motor or bad connection to the motor

Expert:  Wayne Roberts replied 1 year ago.

if you can verify that there is 120 volts at the splice to the fan motor then you know the motor itself has gone bad. .... just had another thought, does this fan have a pull chain speed selector?

Expert:  Wayne Roberts replied 1 year ago.

Oh, and sometimes(most of the time) the fan/light are on switches. Make sure all switches to the fan are in the "on" position.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Where is that switch
Expert:  Wayne Roberts replied 1 year ago.

On the wall in your house :), probably in the same room as the fan.

Expert:  Wayne Roberts replied 1 year ago.

Thats how they did it before remotes...so old school...you had to get up to turn on the fan/light...kinda like TV

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
That switch is on - the light works on the fan
Expert:  Wayne Roberts replied 1 year ago.

oh and sometimes the switches are in what is known as a "3way" configuration. So there may be two switches that control the same fan

Expert:  Wayne Roberts replied 1 year ago.

the light switch and fan switch can be separate

Expert:  Wayne Roberts replied 1 year ago.

but if its just one switch for the whole fan... and its on, you have a bad connection or bad motor

Expert:  Wayne Roberts replied 1 year ago.

Any luck?

Expert:  Wayne Roberts replied 1 year ago.
