I am changing a light fitting and the old fitting had a Red

I am changing a light fitting and the old fitting had a Red (Active) Black (Neutral) Yellow & Green (Earth) but also has a white... I have isolated the white and connected the others and the light stays on permanently?? how do you suggest I fix this?

  1. Isolate the red wire
  2. Connect the white wire where the red was.
  3. Test the operation from the light switch
