We are trying to install a vent fan and the instructions say to connect the red wire from the fan to the red electrical wire and we don't have a red one. We have two black wires two white wires and two ground wires

The connections depend on know which wire feed and which are switched. Get a tester at any home center. A Volt/Con is what I suggest getting.
