Welcome. My name is ***** ***** would be glad to assist.

When was the home built?

It sounds like there may have been some upgrades to the electrical at some point by having metal and plastic boxes both.

The plastic boxes do not have cables with a bare ground wire? Just white and black wires?

The metal boxes are from the original wiring possibly? Is that wiring in a metal covered sheath and the wires inside?

Pictures would also be useful if you can post them.

Let me know and we can continue.
