I am trying to install a ceiling fan. There are only 2 wires

Customer Question

I am trying to install a ceiling fan. There are only 2 wires coming out of the ceiling. They are both wrapped in black cloth and one is copper. I want to use the receiver that came with the fan. I am assuming the copper wire is the grounding wire which I would connect with the 2 grounding wires (form downrod and hanging bracket). Then the other black wire from the ceiling would have to be the live wire, correct? Then I would have one wire from the receiver (white neutral in) that is supposed to be connect to a white wire from the ceiling, but there is none so I am not sure what to do with it. DO I have this correct? My black copper wire to the 2 grounding wires, then the other black wire (grey metal) to the live in from receiver?

Additional details needed:

1. Do you have a 2 lead voltage tester with readout?

2. How many switches operate the ceiling box?

3. What was in the location prior to now?

Let me know and we can continue,
