im changing my outside light on the lamp post, the original wiring only has a black wire and a white wire, the new fixture has a black, a white and a ground, what do i do

1) Does the lamp post house wires not contain a bare copper or a green insulated ground wire?
2) What is the wiring scheme that was used to extend the house wires out to the lamp post? Underground Feeder cable (direct burial cable) or a conduit?
