The original 27186 is a wall remote, just like a remote you would carry.
It sends signals to a receiver mounted in the canopy of the fan at the ceiling.
That is why it only takes 2 wires to operate everything, since it only sends a signal to the receiver and the receiver does the actual controlling
The 27182 as a DOUBLE slider that controls direct to the fan and light and does not use a receiver.
This means it takes 3 wires to operate the fan and light on separate sliders.
PLUS, you must remove the receiver in the ceiling.
Unfortunately, you do not have enough wires to install and use it.
It is best in your situation, to get another 27186 and install.
The 27186 has dip switches for the addressing between it and the ceiling receiver that would only have to be set.
Otherwise, you would have to get a complete set, wall remote and receiver, they sell as matched pairs to install in its place.
