VerifiedHi, I'm Mike and I'll be glad to assist you. The switch you have is made to operate the fan and the light independantly, but there has to be one more wire to the ceiling opening. The only way to be able to switch them independantly would be to install a remote. What did you do in the fan ceiling box? How many wires and what were the colors?
That wiring precludes usin the dual switch you have. There is only one hot to the fan and the only thing to do is install a regular single pole switch. You can't install a dimmer on the fan, it will ruin the motor only a speed control is advisable. The only way around the situation is to install a remote for operation.
