I am installing a in wall timer for a porch light. I timer

I am installing a in wall timer for a porch light. I timer I removed has two black wires whcih was connected to the only line coming in, one black to black and the other black to the white. The new timer has a Black, Red, and white. How do I connect with only one line coming into the box.

Just one line coming into the swtich box with a black and a white wire.

I'm sorry to say but that means there is no neutral in the box. So you can not use that timer. You need A timer that does not require neutral. Please check the following links for few models that does not require neutral;
